So sorry to hear about your mom. That picture is a heart-breaker. Sometimes it feels as if all the real adults are vanishing, leaving the kids in charge of the planet. I know that your mom had been suffering from the confusion that haunts the last years of so many, but to see her in 1953... young and vital and in charge... I mean, who wouldn't have wanted to be one of those kids?
I bet that's one of the happiest times of her life--three great kids running around making mayhem that Mom's got to wrestle down and keep in balance. Good to see those strong forearms on her! Being surrounded by the kids was what women of that generation lived for.
